Gentoo Report A Gentoo is one of the shyest penguins around. Habitat Gentoo Penguins are native to sub-Antarctic Islands where chilly temperatures allow for ideal breeding. Gentoo Penguins live in ice-free areas like flat, rocky beaches and low-lying cliffs where large colonies of individuals can gather. Predators Predators of Gentoo Penguins include other birds and sea animals. Skuas eat the eggs of Gentoo Penguins. Sheath bills, Cara-caras, Kelp gulls, Giant-petrels and feral cats prey on young birds. What they eat Gentoo Penguins are hunters. They usually eat a mix of crustaceans, small fishes and squid. They also eat other birds and sea animals. Life-cycle Gentoo Penguins live up to 13 years old. Most deaths occur within the first year of life, there is only a 30 to 50 percent chance of them surviving until the next year. Behaviour Gentoo are the shyest and make little effort in defence of their territory, they will point their bill and back off from predators. Such as skuas, doing little to discourage the looting of their nest. By Jessica :)
